How to Treat Deep Blackheads
How to Treat Deep Blackheads

We all get these pesky deep blackheads that are hard to remove no matter how much we scrub our face. Here’s how to treat deep blackheads so you won’t have to see them on your skin every day.

Step 1: Start with cleansing

Remove all the dirt and oil that can interfere with the treatment. Use Actinera® Bamboo Charcoal Face Wash to effectively remove all dirt as well as dead skin cells without causing irritation on your skin. Use gentle circular strokes, concentrating on your T-zone.

Be careful not to scrub too hard or too long. Too much cleansing irritates your skin, disturbs its normal microbiome, and cause skin breaks that result in infected acne. Scrub for 1 minute and then rinse with lukewarm water.

Another good thing with using Actinera® Bamboo Charcoal Face Wash is that it contains activated charcoal. It’s a gentle, abrasive material that helps remove dead skin cells. Unlike other abrasive cleansers that spread dead skin cells on your face, activated charcoal catches and binds them. Its highly porous surface traps dead skin cells and draws in more, preventing skin deposits in your pores.

Step 2: Open your pores

There are two reasons why it’s hard to treat deep blackheads:

  • The comedone is stuck in your pores
  • Your pores are too small for them to get out

Open your pores by steaming your face for 10 minutes. To do this:

  1. Boil 6 cups of water
  2. Let it cool for 2-3 minutes
  3. Get a big basin or bowl and place it on the table
  4. Carefully pour the steaming water inside the bowl or basin.
  5. Sit in front of the steaming container and get a large towel.
  6. Lean forward and place your face 6 inches above the container. Cover your head and the bowl to trap the heat and steam.
  7. Adjust your distance accordingly if the heat is too much. You can also release some steam and heat by lifting the towel. Remember that your goal is to open your pores, not to suffocate and pass out due to the heat and lack of oxygen.

Step 3: Use a peel-off mask

Peel-off masks soften the skin and remove excess gunk that can interfere with removing deep blackheads. Actinera® Deep Pore-Suction Mask goes deep inside your pores to remove blackheads and whiteheads from your skin. Let the mask dry completely before you lift it going from the chin up in a smooth, upward motion. Actinera® Deep Pore-Suction Mask contains hyaluronic acid that helps deeply moisturize your skin to soften and prevent skin breaks when you proceed to the next stage.

Step 4: Extract the blackheads

A comedone extractor helps take out deep blackheads without causing unnecessary disturbance on your skin. It’s a metal tool that has a loop at the end that allows you to put concentrated and localized pressure to help remove blackheads.

Sterilize your comedone extractor with alcohol then press it face down on your blackhead. Position the rim of the extractor around the edges of the blackhead and not over. Press down and wiggle the tool to pop out the comedone, then finish with a sweeping motion to remove it. You have two tries to do it on the blackhead. If it refused to budge, leave it.

Step 5: Soothe your skin

Your skin’s been through a lot, and your pores are wide open. Apply a cooling mask that will close the pores and has soothing ingredients such as:

  • Vitamin E
  • Green tea
  • Aloe vera
  • Colloidal oats
  • Evening primrose oil
  • Panthenol

Never leave your pores open after extraction. This will only encourage more acne from forming as well as an infection.

Final tips

Whatever you do, do not use your fingers when you’re thinking of ways how to treat deep blackheads. Squeezing disrupts your skin and causes irritation. It’s not the same as with a comedone extractor since your fingers, no matter how small they are, can still cover a lot of surface area. What’s more, you cannot thoroughly disinfect your fingers the same way you could with a comedone extractor.

If you find that you cannot remove deep blackheads on the first try, sleep on it and head to the dermatologist the next day. Some deep blackheads require professional attention to prevent complications such as infection, gaping pores, and deep scarring.
