5 Tips on How to Treat Blackheads and Whiteheads Naturally

Blackheads and whiteheads come and go. What’s bothersome is that they often come back twice the number than they first made their grand appearance on your face. Here are 5 tips to help you treat blackheads and whiteheads naturally to keep your face smooth and clear.

Witch hazel

A natural astringent, witch hazel helps treat blackheads and whiteheads by removing excess oil on the skin. It also fights acne-causing bacteria that often makes your acne red and inflamed. Used correctly, witch hazel is effective in treating mild acne breakouts. Apply witch hazel on a pad of cotton and gently wipe it around your face. You’ll feel your skin tighten because it can effectively shrink your pores. Remember to follow up with a light, water-based moisturizer. Don’t use it too much as witch hazel can dry your skin, causing irritation and rebound breakouts.

Coconut oil and coffee grounds

Mixing these ingredients will give you a soothing, delicious smelling scrub that can clear your pores and moisturize your skin at the same time. Combine equal parts of slightly warm coconut oil and fresh coffee grounds. Massage on your face with a gentle, circular motion, concentrating on problem areas. Leave for 5 minutes and rinse it off thoroughly with cold water. Pat dry and use once a week.

Honey and aloe vera

Combine the cleansing property of honey and the cool, soothing effects of aloe vera, and you will get a perfect mask for highly sensitive skin. Mix 2 teaspoons of raw honey with 1 teaspoon aloe vera gel. Apply on your face and leave it on for 10-20 minutes before rinsing off with lukewarm or cool water. Gently pat dry afterward. This is great for dry skin because both ingredients are natural humectants that bind moisture to your skin. You can use this mask every 2-3 days to soothe and moisturize your skin.

Oatmeal mask

This treatment is good for dry, sensitive skin. Mix 1/4 cup of oatmeal with 2 teaspoons each of honey, yogourt, and olive oil. Use a food processor to blend all the ingredients together to make a paste. Apply it on your skin and let it dry for about 5-7minutes, then wash away with warm water. Use once a week to keep blackheads and whiteheads at bay.

Activated charcoal and bentonite clay

Activated charcoal and bentonite clay penetrate deep into your pores to take out dirt, oil, and dead skin cells. Mix equal amounts of activated charcoal and clay together in a glass or ceramic bowl and add enough water to make a paste. Use a facial brush to apply the paste on your skin, and let it dry completely. Wash off with cool water, making sure to remove all traces of the mask. Gently pat dry with a dark-colored towel.

Avoid using any form of metal when mixing and applying the mask because it will reverse the polarity of the clay. What’s going to happen is that it will bind to the activated charcoal and you will get a useless paste.
